Federal Public Service Commission
For general recruitment to federal posts, FPSC now uses an MCQ-based examination system. Under the public notice issued in August 2025 (effective September 21, 2025), traditional written descriptive tests for general recruitment were abolished.
Test format (current rules)
| Post level | Papers |
|---|---|
| BPS-16 and BPS-17 | Single MCQ paper of 100 marks |
| BPS-18 and above | Two MCQ papers |
Qualifying marks: 40–50% depending on the post | Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer
The papers cover the advertised post’s subject areas along with general ability (Everyday Science, Current Affairs, Pakistan Affairs, English and related areas, as given in the official syllabus for each post).
Not affected
These changes do not apply to the CSS Competitive Examination, which continues with its written papers, psychological assessment and interview.
